Quick facts about French Montana
Date of birth: November 9, 1984
Place of birth: Rabat, Morocco
French Montana, aka Karim Kharbouch, is an American rapper with Moroccan roots. Founder and owner of Cocaine City Records, he seems to have his hands expanding into just about everything. Expert at self-promotion, he has made a living out of starting things and building them to something special. Born November 9, 1984, he moved to the South Bronx with his family at the age of 13. Learning English on the streets of New York, he is a rapper who is not only self-taught musically, he pretty much taught himself everything he knows. A rag to riches story, his mother, left alone by his father just two years after moving the family to America, lived on welfare. Assuming the role as head of the family, he took his passion for music and made a career and a name out of it, to support her and his siblings.
An example that the American dream is alive and well, French Montana is a self-made man, literally. Making mixed DVDs to sell to underground artists, he created a following long before he ever became mainstream. He was the first to make the “street DVD” a success. He ran the creation and distribution of his DVDs doing interviews with famous people for eight years, releasing a total of 14 different editions.
Not just playing for an American audience, Young French Montana is one of the only international rappers to make it on the American scene. He speaks Arabic, French and English, and is very passionate about fashion and name brands. However French Montana had his share of troubles too — he was shot in the head in 2003 and taken to the hospital. Not expected to live, he survived without any complications. Currently dating Khloe Kardashian, he has a long list of on again, off again, relationships with the likes of Trina, a popular American rapper, and, of course, Deen Karbouch, the mother of his son Kruz, who he was married to for 5 years. He insists his son Kruz, who was both in 2009, is the source of his inspiration.
Coming from such a modest background, and being the son of an immigrant who lived on welfare, he has come a long way. He is reportedly worth $8 million, which in the rapper world may not be that much, but for a young man who started and promoted himself on the streets, that is a far way to go. Constantly re-inventing himself, he says that his models are Snoop Dog, 50 Cent, Tupac Shakur and Nas.
Being able to rise to fame on his own, he is following in the foot of his role models in many ways. Living the gangster life, he is not without controversy. He reportedly lives at a home on 1.37 acres that is worth $5 million. His latest love interest, Khloe Kardashian, is shining the spotlight hard on this rapper of humble means. Who knows, perhaps his best career move was falling in love with a Kardashian. He no longer has to keep up with them; apparently he just had to date one.
