Mike Tyson is considered one of the best heavyweights of all time and he certainly was one of the richest athletes. During his active career Mike got over $300 million but unfortunately just like he was good at fighting, he was good at spending enormous amounts of money.
He lived in a luxury mansion, had a car collection, kept Bengali tigers and even gave a $2.3 million bathtub to his wife to profess his love. Mike is known for his controversial behavior, had problems with law and was even convicted on the rape charge in 1992. Due to his lavish lifestyle and his arrest things started to fall apart for him and in 2003 Mike was forced to file for bankruptcy.
What is notable is that Mike Tyson was a particularly difficult child and was arrested 38 times before age 13. Fortunately for him, he was eventually forced to go to school where his unusual talent was discovered and Mike began serious training.
Young Mike was coached by Cus D’Amato, who was a legend of the boxing world at that time. Cus D’Amato became Mike’s legal guardian after the death of Mike’s mother when he was only 16 years old and Mike has considered him a surrogate father. Unfortunately for Mike, Cus D’Amato died of pneumonia, leaving 19 year old fighter devastated and alone. This is when Kevin Rooney took over and stayed by Mike until he fired him in the end of 1980s.
Mike Tyson retired from professional boxing in 2006. Mike has been quoted saying:
I just want to escape. I’m really embarrassed with myself and my life.
