Born February 7, 1978, in Cedar Rapids, IA, Christopher “Ashton” Kutcher is the epitome of the Midwestern guy. Although, you would never know it if he didn’t proclaim himself one. In a town where sometimes, all it takes is a little luck, he got very lucky. Growing up was not easy, having a family life that was marred with the illness of his brother and the tumultuous roller coaster that it put the family on. Although finding enjoyment in plays during high school, that was not the path that Ashton was set down. Ashton was on course to figure things out. He majored in biochemical engineering at the University of Iowa to try to find a cure for his brother’s heart condition.
The problem was that the serious side of Kutcher was always in direct opposition to the wild and crazy side. Partying way too hard and living just as hard, made it difficult to stay focused. To pay for his education, he took odd jobs like working in a cereal plant or selling blood. It all changed when, at a bar in Iowa City, he was scouted by a modeling agency to be an entrant in the “Fresh Faces of Iowa” competition, a modeling contest. As luck would have it, he won. Quickly withdrawing from school, he headed to New York City. Modeling was just the stepping stone to get him where he ultimately wanted to be, acting on stage. Remembering his fondness for acting, after leaving New York, he set his sights on an acting career and relocated to Los Angeles.
The thing, that really changed everything for him, was when he tried out for the part of Michael Kelso on That 70s Show. From there he was cast into many comedic roles and developed the stigma as the dumb good looking guy. He played the role extremely well, and soon he was without need for work; people were seeking him out.
Not just all about looks, Kutcher is a venture capitalist who earns just as much, if not more, off screen as a serious businessman, as he does on. Investing early on in tech start-ups, he has been involved in such giants as Path, Foursquare, Skype and Airbnb all on the way up. The co-founder of A-Grade Investments, and in 2013, Lenovo hired him as a product engineer. He is also a successful investor in the Dolce chain restaurant, and Geisha House. Other less known behaviors are the way that he gives back to those around him. Being involved in many humanitarian causes, he does so quietly and never wants accolade for his efforts. Although having an onscreen persona as a guy with very little brain, off screen he has lots of brains and a big heart to boot.
